Zero-initial-JS selective activation engine. Turn server-rendered HTML into instant interactivity on intent. Similar to Qwik, but works with any stack. * Backends: Laravel/Blade, Rails, Django, plain PHP. * Frameworks and build tools: Astro, Vite (fromGlob(import.meta.glob(…))), webpack, React/Vue/Svelte islands. * Alongside other libraries: htmx, Turbo, Web Components. React, Vue and Svelte: CycleWire can load your islands, hydrating a server-rendered component only when it scrolls into view, and components can use CycleWire actions. See docs/frameworks.md. SweetAlert2, Flatpickr, DataTables, jQuery: import a library in the action that uses it, and it loads when it is needed: the date picker on the field's first focus, the table enhancements when the table scrolls into view.

- → Laws of Software Engineering
This is a handy catalog, but the deeper value is knowing when each one clarifies reality and when it distorts it. Brooks’s Law, Conway’s Law, Hyrum’s Law, Goodhart’s Law, Gall’s Law, YAGNI, DRY, KISS: each names a recurring pressure, tradeoff, or failure mode. The mistake is treating them as universal commandments instead of heuristics with scope and context. The best engineers do not cite laws to end discussion. They use them to ask better questions about systems, teams, and unintended consequences. HN thoughts: The thread is broadly skeptical of the framing. The strongest consensus is that calling these ideas “laws” oversells them: commenters repeatedly argue they are really aphorisms, heuristics, or design principles, often contradictory and too easy to cherry-pick to justify whatever decision someone already wants to make. A major subtheme is that the list is incomplete or misleading. People suggest missing entries like Greenspun’s rule, Boyd’s law of iteration, and Ousterhout’s ideas on complexity, while others say some listed items are not really software-engineering-specific at all. The main disagreement is not whether these observations are useful, but how they should be used. One camp says many are valuable if treated as context-dependent guidance rather than doctrine. Examples include nuanced defenses of DRY, “premature optimization,” and decomposition principles. The other camp sees the whole exercise as vague software voodoo dressed up as science, with little empirical grounding. There is also a smaller practical thread about books and sources worth trusting, plus one modern angle: using Claude or other LLMs to brute-force performance ideas, then porting the good parts back into maintainable code. Overall mood: useful maxims exist, but dogmatism and false precision are the real danger.

An often overlooked cost of using cloud services is data egress. This is the cost of sending data out of the cloud provider's network to the public internet. Here's what 1 TB of egress beyond the free allowance would cost you with each provider:
